A fun, easy idea, for quiet and/or calming space.
We took a bunch of pillows, a cozy blanket and our white Christmas lights, cleared out closet space and created this amazing space.
The quarantine has brought our family closer, but sometimes that is too close for siblings. This is the perfect way to give each child their own dark space for down time, alone.
One thing I have learned along our autism journey, you can use what you have around the house to create calming or quiet spaces for your little one. For us, little man can get overstimulated easily and it can happen frequently. It is as simple as the dog whining for food or his sister crying. We have used all the ideas listed below.
Ideas for calming spaces:
- a big cardboard box
- a tent made from blankets over chairs from your kitchen table
- camping tent pitched in the basement (or other space to accommodate)
- weighted blanket in mom and dad’s bed (our little guy loves cuddling in our bed)
